An event titled “Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin and Contributions of Muslims to Science” was held at our university. The event, where YÖK Executive Board Member Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Karaman was the guest and speaker, was held on Tuesday, November 12 at Teoman Duralı Conference Hall.
In the conversation where the works of our dear Professor Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin, who had a unique place in revealing the Islamic scientific heritage and introducing it to the world, and the importance of these works were underlined again, important sections from the life of our teacher were also shared with our members.
Speaking about Fuat Sezgin's good management of his time, focusing entirely on his studies, and his determination to learn languages, Prof. Karaman stated that his studies were highly appreciated by his professors with the emphasis that “no one has ever done such a work before and no one will ever be able to do it again”.
Prof. Karaman stated that Fuat Sezgin, who was deemed worthy of many international awards and who made a breakthrough with his works, especially his 17-volume “History of Arab-Islamic Science”, had 4 recommendations especially for young people; He stated that Fuat Sezgin expressed the importance of Islamic ascetisism (zühd), persistence in patience, fear of God and especially the importance of concentrating on working at a desk for the organization of working life both in his life and in his speeches from time to time.
