The manuscript, entitled “Irshad al-'Aql al-Salim ila Mazaya al-Qur'an al-Karim”, was handed over to the president of Ibn Haldun University Professor Recep Şentürk by Ali İhsan Tangören on Tuesday, September 24. The ceremony was held in Süleymaniye Külliyesi at the pavilion of Ebussuud Efendi which he used as his office while he was serving as Shaykh al-Islām.
The donor, Ali İhsan Tangören, 86-year-old, is a Turkish petroleum engineer who in his childhood has attended classes of the famous scholar of Ankara Hacı Hilmi Tolluoğlu. Tangören, who lives in the United States, took over the inheritance library of Tolluoğlu which included the donated manuscript. Faculty Members Prof. Yaşar Çolak, Prof. Hasan Kaplan, Prof. İhsan Kahveci and the Head of IHU Library Sönmez Çelik have attended the ceremony. At the ceremony, Prof Şentürk delivered a speech and expressed his satisfaction with the donation and thanked Ali İhsan Tangören for his donation. Şentürk stressed out that the manuscript will be verified and published by the university as soon as possible in Arabic, English and Turkish. Assist. Prof. Yaşar Çolak, a faculty member of the School of Islamic Sciences at Ibn Haldun University, was a mediator in the donation. Çolak told an interesting story of Ali İhsan Tangören and the collection of Tolluoğlu in his article to the Open Civilization newspaper. The manuscript, which was donated to the Library of Ibn Haldun University, was written according to the Hijri calendar in Rajab 986, four years after the death of Ebussuud Efendi. The first volume of the book, whose full name is Irshad al-'Aql al-Salim ila Mazaya al-Qur'an al-Karim, was donated to IHU library and the second volume’s place is still unknown. The manuscript was released in 570 pages and consists of 33 lines per page. Ebussuud Efendi, also known as Hoca Çelebi, was a Hanafi Ottoman scholar. He wrote tafsir “Irshad al-'Aql al-Salim ila Mazaya al-Qur'an al-Karim”. He was also called "El-İmâdî" because his family was from İmâdiyye. Ebussuud was the son of Muhiddin Muhammad Efendi.
