Haydar Aliyev Center for Eurasian Studies continues to engage in the academic debate on ensuring integration of the Turkic world.

Representing Haydar Aliyev Center for Eurasian Studies at Ibn Haldun University, Prof. Dr. Yaşar Sarı and Dr. Najiba Mustafayeva embarked on an important visit to Hungary on October 10th and 11th, 2024. The delegation participated in two significant programs aimed at fostering international collaboration among Turkic states.

Program at the Hungarian Institute of International Affairs (HIIA)

The first session took place at the Hungarian Institute of International Affairs (HIIA) in Budapest. The primary focus of the discussion was the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), an international body that has become one of the key players in the global policymaking arena. The topics addressed during the meeting included:

  • Role under International Law: The participants explored the OTS's legal role in international frameworks, highlighting its significance.
  • Recent Initiatives: A review of OTS’s recent projects showcased its proactive stance in fostering regional cooperation.
  • Future Prospects: The discussion delved into the future trajectory of the OTS within the context of current geopolitical changes.

This meeting brought together diplomats from Azerbaijan and Turkey, representatives from the Hungarian office of the OTS, and scholars, including researchers and students. The diverse audience contributed to an enriching exchange of ideas on the future of regional cooperation.

Program at Széchenyi István University

The second program was held at Széchenyi István University in Győr, where Dr. Najiba Mustafayeva delivered a guest lecture on International Organizations as Subjects of International Law. In parallel, Prof. Dr. Yaşar Sarı presented an insightful overview of the OTS, covering its history, structure, key areas of cooperation, and future prospects.

The delegation also held a meeting with the Széchenyi István University officials. Key discussions during this visit focused on:

  • Teaching Mobility and Student Exchange: Both sides explored the potential for enhancing academic collaboration through exchange programs and teaching mobility initiatives.
  • Thematic Seminars and Joint Projects: The conversation also emphasized the organization of joint seminars and summer school projects, aiming to deepen ties between the institutions.

This fruitful meeting underscored the value of academic collaboration, reaffirming a mutual commitment to expanding educational and research partnerships between Ibn Haldun University and Széchenyi István University.
