'The Recovery of Psychological Violence is Much Harder Than Physical Violence Itself'
The effects of psychological violence on children have been discussed in a seminar titled "Montessori hand-on Education" organized in cooperation of Continuing Education Center at Ibn Haldun University and Palet Schools.

Speaking at the seminar Pervin Nedim Bal Associate Professor at the Department of Counseling Psychology said there are six types of violences and those are physical, emotional, verbal, sexual, economic and psychological. Stressing the importance of psychological violence on children, Bal emphasized that instructors and teachers in schools use psychological violence rather than physical.

"Psychological violence have much more negative effect on children than physical. At the same time, the recovery of psychological violence is much harder." she added.  Associate professor Bal emphasized that a po-faced look by a teacher or not to give a child what he/she deserves after a success is also a psychological violence. "Even that kind of punishment without a physcial touch, leaves negative effects on children" she added.

Stating that psychological violence comes both from parents and teachers Dr. Bal said, "Children who suffer from psychological violence have lack of self-confidence, they are dissocial and they have maladaptive behaviour in the public. Children who witnessed psychological violence during early ages will have those kind of defects in their lives. Accepting to much from children no matter what their potantial is also a psychological violence. That kind of violence causes exam anxiety. The reason we witness too much exam anxiety in Turkey is because of this psychological violence. Children who do not have success anxiety in life, do not have exam anxiety as well."
